Sometimes I just click with my couples, sometimes for no rhyme or reason, but other times over things, like dogs. Maura & Mary love dogs. Mary said that she had to contact me when she saw I was a dog lover. In her initial email to me I think she talked more about her dogs then Maura. I knew from the get-go that I really wanted to work with these two. After their engagement session and several texts about various wedding related things, we became friends. I was so excited to spend the day with Mary & Maura when their wedding finally came around. It was a day filled with happy tears, dogs, of course, donuts (also, of course if you know these two), and some amazing dancing.
My favorite part of the wedding, hands down was when their officiant read a passage from the Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage. It was incredibly powerful and amazing to witness.
“No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death. It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right. It is so ordered.”
I was so honored to document this wedding and so thankful I got two awesome friends in the process. (Three if you count Whiskey!)You might recognize these two from earlier this year. Can’t wait for Erin & Chris’ wedding in October! 🙂
